The Week Was Complete…

And Just like that, with Admiralty, Anglers, Birdcage, Cock & Bull, Distillers and the GNRT already going well, the Hercules came calling in Lambeth North looking for a brand new Monday Night Quiz. Sadly, this pub just wasn’t quite the fit we needed, so after just a month upstairs in the Carousel room, the Quiz has now been put on a break. It may return in the Autumn, we shall see! But forgetting the negative, a positive thing was for a while, I was proud to say that from one humble Hornsey Quiz back in 2017, just over 2 years later, and 7 Quizzes in 5 Days meant I was in Seventh Heaven!

THE GNRT: TWO GOOD TWO BE TRUE!

The Great Northern Railway Tavern has been my bread and butter. It is where it all began again for me back in 2017 and is consistently one of the busiest Quizzes I host. On Wednesday 1st May, 4 weeks after welcoming 84 Players for the 100th Quiz, we had 52 Players for our 104th Quiz, which spookily gave the winning team - Johnny Big Liathroidi £104!! Where can we go from here? Well, with new teams from the ever growing local area coming in added to the many regulars who have been coming since the beginning. We are in good shape! Bring on the next 2 years in Hornsey!TON UP!

Ton Up!

On Wednesday April 3rd, a real landmark occasion. Back in April 2017, After a year out from Quiz Hosting, I was unsure where my life was going professionally, but thanks to the Hornsey Quiz, little did I know, that this Quiz would be the foundation for what is now my own business spanning over 6 pubs a week, multiple corporates, weddings, charities and quizzes for people like the Aussie Rugby Team! I owe a lot of it down to this pub, so in May we will celebrate the 2nd birthday, but in April, it was time to celebrate reaching 100 quizzes! The Quiz did not disappoint as a whopping 84 Players turned up over 19 teams taking over the entire pub. What an atmosphere. What a Quiz Night. Here is to the next 100

The Return of the Anglers

It is BACK! Get yourself back to the riverside of Teddington by the lock for the fantastic Tuesday Night Pub Quiz. We just took a break whilst a) it was refurbished and b) it was cold, dark and wet! So with the sunshine back, the temperatures rising, we have many plans lined up, and hopefully some more big garden Quizzes. Playdoh, Prizes, and much more. The first 40 Quizzes boasted high turnouts of up to 90 players, so bring it on. May 28th, we go again! So get your down to the brand new pub for the Best Quiz in the South West! I went to a launch party in early May and the pub looks incredible. One definitely not to be missed!

THE EIGHTH DISTILLERS JACKPOT has been WON! And it didn’t take long at all! After just 1 jar had been opened (again!) the Growlers overcame the rest and went for Jar Number 7 which turned out to be money! £168 for them to add to the £352, £280 & £240 they had won a few jackpots ago! This means that we start all over again on October 6th, but if the crowds keep coming, it shouldn’t take long to reach big money again!

"I'm A Keen Thirtysomething Host & Entertainer...

... Who is wanting to use my drama degree to its full potential!!"

One day whilst working in a bar, the Quiz Host was off sick, so I stepped in with no Quiz experience and was hooked! I absolutely loved it, so much so, that 9 years later, I turned a hobby into a career!

l am an extremeley passionate host, putting my all into every single Quiz. Each Quiz comes complete with a whole lot of fun, bags of personality and more prizes & tubs of Play-doh than you can shake a bic at! Each Quiz includes rounds such as Mash Up Music or Cryptic Conundrums plus current affairs, TV Themes, Family Fortunes, the infamous Wipeout Round and Much, much more.

I have also hosted special themed quizzes to suit the occasion with specialist rounds for events such as St Patricks Day, Halloween or Christmas and I also play games to incorporate parties or Quizzes for an occasion such as Valentines Day (We had a speed dating round with some ladies from the ITV Show Take Me Out getting involved!) The best of the bunch are the Summer Special Beach Parties which include the now iconic FAB Lolly eating challenge!

I have hundreds of quizzes stored up so can easily write one to come and host for a company night (whether it be work party or social evening) or alternatively for a smaller fee could purely write the quiz and send it for someone else to host. I can tailor quizzes to the client and even come with my own Gold Suit Jacket!

I have hosted for companies in the past such as RBS and written for Intel, and even had the pleasure of hosting a friends wedding ceremony one Summer and hosted a quiz for the whole staff and players of the Australian Rugby team in 2018. So If you are interested in having my Social Night for your Party or event, or would like to come to one of my weekly Quizzes, read on...

Tuesday Nights

The Drafthouse Birdcage

Columbia Road,

East London,

8pm-10pm

Written by Paul

Hosted by Aussie Chris from June 11th

After hosting in 6 Fullers Pubs over the past 2 years (GNRT, Admiralty, Masons Arms, Anglers, Distillers and the Cock & Bull), Former Assistant Manager of the Distillers got in touch with me, as multiple DraftHouse Pubs were interested in taking me in. I didn’t have too many open windows with such a busy schedule, but took the opportunity, as Hosting a quiz in East London would complete the set of one in each part of the capital. I am initially hosting here until around May or June time, but will continue to provide the quiz to the pub so the format will stay the same. In the first month, the numbers continued to rise and we brought an atmosphere onto one of London’s most famous roads, Columbia Road, with a mix of Boozy Bingo, Play Doh Sculpting and all the fun of the other quizzes. After 12 Weeks at the helm, I was back to Teddington, so I continue to write for this pub and occasionally go back and host the odd one or two. But between Eric & Aussie Chris, the Quiz continues!

Tuesday Nights:

The Anglers

Teddington Lock,

South West London / Middlesex

8pm - 10pm

This Quiz started in March 2018 and was the Tuesday replacement for 2017's Quiz at the Masons Arms in Battersea. I'm travelling even further South to some old haunts for a nostalgic trip down memory lane! The Anglers is a beautiful pub situated right on the Thames by Teddington Lock. The Pub (Like the Admiralty) already had a quiz, but it was in need of a shake up on request from the pub, so I grabbed the opportunity with both hands and had 54 Players in the first Quiz! It was a great opportunity for the South West Londoners to get creative with Playdoh and reunited me with some of my uni friends, 10 years on! Most Importantly, the Quiz brought a feeling of community and an atmosphere on a Tuesday Night, which pleased the staff immensely and by the end of the summer, all the old Quiz teams were coming back too! We are Regularly giving away big money here, so don't miss out!! The Quiz kept going from strength to strength & Included special guests and a Christmas Choir featured within rounds during December. After player numbers of 91, 72 and even 40 on New Years Day. The Quiz came back after its long Winter break, starting in the brand spanking newly refurbished pub on May 28th.

Wednesday Nights:

The Great Northern Railway Tavern (GNRT)

Hornsey,

North London,

8pm - 10pm

The Original. This Quiz has been running since April 2017. We have had party Quizzes, specialist theme nights and even went up against a Shakespeare Performance... And won! Every Wednesday, in the Beautiful Ballroom, Hornsey has a new Social event. There is also an epic selection of Craft Beers, cracking menu, and a picturesque beer garden complete with fire, bunting and little heated huts. A perfect way to get over Hump Day! With Redevelopment of the area coming along nicely, we are constantly getting more and more regular players which is making the numbers between 40-70 players per week, which means epic atmospheres and a nice big juicy prize pot each week for the winners! Our Highest number of players came on our 100th Quiz when 84 Players were in the house! That was then followed by over 50 for our 2nd birthday! It continues to shine!

Thursday Nights:

The Cock & Bull,

Sutton,

Surrey,

8pm - 10pm

As A Quiz Host, I'm running out of days in a week, but they say you should always get your 5 a day, well for me, in Quizzing Terms, I am Now getting my 5 A Week! In Sutton, Surrey, a beautiful pub right on the high street, well known for the e4 Comedy 'PhoneShop'. Razz Prince wanted the Ultimate Selling Crew, well here, we will be looking for the Ultimate Quizzing Crew! Come join us for a mix of Playdoh, Picture Rounds, Games, Prizes for all and Boozy Card Bingo! The Quiz was brought in by request of the pub to boost their footfall, and as the first 10 Quizzes went by, word of mouth spread, regulars came back and we started to get bigger numbers. There is a real sense of community in this Quiz which is putting Quizzes in Sutton back on the Map!

Sunday Nights:

The Distillers

Hammersmith,

West London,

7pm - 9pm

The 4th Quiz in the PJQuizco Franchise! Sundays are back for me after a long absence since the days of the Canonbury. Hammersmith is the location, making it one in the North, West, Central and South West of London so far! The Distillers, a venue, well known for Music & Comedy, now gets my Mash Ups and Poor Jokes to keep within the theme of the pub! Week one brought in 46 Players, as people seemed to be ready for the mix of Cryptics and Playdoh Sculpting! Long may it continue as all Quizzes start to become very busy! So if you are free for a Sunday post Roast Quiz Night, come down and have your chance to win either a £30 Bar tab, or gamble the lot for a big Prize Pot of Cash! Could start to be an iconic evening in West London! Since the Summer, a Jackpot has been rolling and has gone up to £600 before being won…!

A Game I developed after playing it on a holiday in Spain in 2017. It really is simple, but people seem to love it! Each team gets some playing cards, and I have the Giant cards. If I call the players cards out, they turn them over, and once on a last card, hold it in the air. Whichever teams last card gets called out first, they win the booze, which ranges from specialist Fullers beers on Monday Nights at the Admiralty, to a hand selection of varying craft beers on Wednesdays and Thursdays in Hornsey & Sutton. We also play a Prize Card Bingo at the other 2 pubs where individual players can win an on the spot prize for matching their card to mine.

Cheap Cheap Cheap! A Shopping game in which every week, from the prize bag (there are always lots of prizes because each team always take something home) I show three items and the teams have to identify which ones they feel will be the cheapest, basically which one cost me the least money at the check out. Again a fun round to add in and testing not only knowledge & Brain Power, but how good our teams are at spotting a bargain and flexing their shopping muscles! Played on Tuesday - Thursdays (Teddington, Hornsey & Sutton)

There are no such thing as losers in my quizzes. Along with the Mash Ups, The idea of giving someone a prize for coming last was something I have done since day one back in 2010. Originally it was just “Doughnuts” but then sometimes teams would throw away the quiz to just settle for doughnuts, so now if your team finishes bottom of the pile, you play a game called Doughnuts or Plums, the metaphor for being a loser! There are 2 Numbers, behind one is a picture of Doughnuts, and the other contains a picture of Plums. Depending on what is picked, this is what is won! The Modern Day Wooden Spoon!

Money Or Honey! In the Summer of 2018, The Manager of the Distillers pub in Hammersmith wanted to shake up the prizes a little in a bid to bring in regular teams. To some degree this has worked, and is an old Jackpot game that I used to play at the Bull in Islington and then attempted with limited success in The Masons Arms, Battersea in 2017. The premise is simple. If a team wins the Quiz, they can either take a bar tab on the spot, or gamble it for a game called Money or Honey. The Jackpot game starts off with 10 Jars (originally envelopes), 9 of which contain a picture of a Beehive (Honey) and one containing a picture of Money. They are placed in at random, so even I don’t have a clue which one contains the winnings. Back at the Bull, we gave away some big money, and already on Jackpot 1, £600 went to the winners. It is a lot of fun, but comes with the risk that you could quiz your heart out only to go home with just a jar of honey!

Charities & Corporates

Along with the weekly Quiz Nights at various pubs & quizzes for Schools, I also have hosted many fundraising nights and include corporate clients into my portfolio. If you would like me to host a fundraising night for your charity or want my Quiz in your office for a Social event, please get in touch! Your team could be making PlayDoh Sculptures on a random Thursday Evening!

Alongside You is an East London based charity that works tirelessly to support families living with a HIV diagnosis. They run an intensive programme of outings for the children as well as working one to one with families who are most in need. In November, 2017, In A fundraising and awareness event in Canning Town, our Quiz Night raised around £800!

Spear is based all around London and prepares young people from disadvantaged backgrounds for the workplace, and trains employers to get the best out of them. Using a year-long programme that equips 16-to-24-year-olds not in education, employment or training (NEET) from disadvantaged backgrounds to find long-term employment. Miranda Hart is their Ambassador. They took over a Monday Night Quiz at the Admiralty in January 2018, and with 55 Players, we raised over £200! Not bad for a Monday Evenings entertainment!

The Quiz was such a success that just 7 weeks later, they had another one, raising a further £150 with around 40 players. I have a good relationship with some of the guys from this charity now, so here's hoping for plenty more fundraisers for them in the future!

Barnardo's is the UK's largest Children's Charity. Founded by Thomas John Barnardo in 1866, to care for vulnerable children and young people. This well known charity raises and spends more than £200 million each year running around 900 local services, aimed at helping these same groups.

On Monday 19th February, 2018, We had around 50 players down and had a fun night of games and prizes galore as we raised over £150! Here's hoping there may be some more in the pipeline!

After doing several Charity Quizzes for other people, It was time on Monday 22nd October, 2018 to do one for myself. Having just run a Half Marathon on behalf of Great Ormond Street Hospital & The Little Jimmy Brighter Future Fund, I hosted a special night filled with fun and prizes galore. Not only did we manage to raise £60 on the Quiz Night, but the winners of the Quizzes in Teddington and The Admiralty Birthday Quiz the week before, both generously donated their prize money to the cause, meaning in total, from the Quizzes alone, I managed to raise a very nice £260! Happy Happy Days!

The CEO of Endometriosis UK Played the Quiz a few times and then the charity got in touch with me in January 2019 asking for my help. Admittedly, it was a challenge, as I knew nothing about the subject matter, but managed to create a fun filled Quiz to go in their fundraising packs which are now being distributed all over the UK! Endometriosis can devastate the lives of women and their families, and the charity deal with offering them key support, reliable information and a community which can help them get through it.

Worlds+Biggest+Quiz+%281%29.jpg

On Sunday 3rd March, I hosted someone else’s quiz for the first time in 9 years as Pub Aid delivered the WORLD’S BIGGEST PUB QUIZ which was happening simultaneously around the country over a period of days. I hosted in The Distillers in Hammersmith and managed to raise around £150 for Prostate Cancer UK, a charity which does fantastic work, and a lot of men don’t check enough, so the Quiz was great to raise awareness. We even had many people not playing who donated during the evening. A worthy cause and a pretty good Quiz… although, no Mash Ups or Play-Doh, so it may have been the World’s Biggest, but it wasn’t the best with our Hammersmith Regulars!

Screen+Shot+2019-03-01+at+10.18.51.jpg

The Night after the Prostate Cancer Quiz, on March 4th 2019, 2 ladies who had got in touch with me were both running Marathons for separate causes: Dementia Revolution and Friends of the Earth. We fundraised the hell out of the night, and had raffles, special Boozy Bingo and ended up making a very tasty £300 which the ladies were overwhelmed with. A Fantastic night with over 60 people down in the Gun deck at the Admiralty in Trafalgar Square.

George Nazer is a legend. A Guy who really helped me start up my business along with Jess and the team at the GNRT, So when he passed away so tragically young last year, we all wanted to do something special. The Pub put on a Fundraiser (or Fund-nazer) in his honour and raised £2700. So I decided a few weeks later to do my bit and help raise more money for SUDEP Action dealing with epilepsy. We raised a nice £150 from the Quiz which meant the overall total from the GNRT To SUDEP Action ended up being £2850! BOSH!

0*-Zq4pGXJO7kOzCnZ..jpg

In August, 2019. A player called Ellie from the GNRT Quiz asked if I Could host a special one off Sunday Quiz at the nearby Maynard Arms in Crouch End. The Pub was packed to the rafters as around 75 Players turned up. We had some terrific Playdoh, the Quiz brought many smiles, and I got to give away some of the most unique prizes you could ever imagine in a Quiz night! There was also an incredible Raffle, and all in all, we managed to raise over £1000 for Gekko Kids, a charity who help Refugee Children. What a difference that will make, and nice to host in another part of North London!

The Masons Arms

September - December 2017

Tuesday Nights

Battersea

South London

This Quiz was my first venture 'South of the River' and showed real promise within the opening month, as this cosy pub tried to look for a new clientele and regular customers. Sadly, most players and drinkers in this pub are after workers who have a train to catch, so despite positive feedback and the odd busy quiz, on the whole, the low numbers of people in the pub meant free quizzes and no return players. It was put on hold in January 2018 but could again take place some other time.

This was a one off Quiz which could have been more. Sadly, I was offered this Quiz after I had taken the Masons Arms in Battersea, so Instead, I headed there to host a Christmas Quiz in December which attracted 16 Teams made up of 70 players. It was a fantastic Atmosphere, and if rumours are true, I Should be back there this year for some more specials! It also prompted a PTA Event for Nearby St Mary's School in Hampstead which had 90 players all raising money for Hakuna Matata Charity. Well, they do say work generates work!

I can provide an evening of entertainment which would include hosting a regular or one off Quiz (complete with Gold Blazer!)

I would also provide writing materials, creative materials such as colours or play doh, all print outs and a multitude of prizes (which could range from small prizes to big things depending on the agreement). I have a MacBook Pro,  microphone & Mini Speaker System, but have hosted many events without the need of any technology whatsoever.

Alternatively if you don't require a host, but still need a quiz, I can provide the quiz in written form for a smaller fee. I have written over 300 quizzes since I started hosting and writing quizzes back in 2010, so have a lot to choose from.

Send me a message in the contact section to find out about prices and to enquire about hiring my services or obtaining a quiz from me.
